Take some basic steps to make your car less attractive to those who want to grab-and-dash!
Start by watching these two videos on how to prevent car break-ins:
WHN Expert TIP – 60 Seconds: According to the City of San Mateo, it takes less than a minute for a thief to break your car window and snatch the iPod, laptop, or purse on the front seat. Keep your valuables out of sight and lock your doors.
Don’t park and then transfer items to your trunk. Someone could be watching. Instead, either do it at home or stop at a gas station or retail lot, make the switch there, and then go on to your final destination.
WHN Expert TIP – Before Not After: CNN says to “Stash before — not after — you park. Get in the habit of putting shopping bags in the trunk right when you return to the vehicle, rather than after you park at the next place.”
Increase your car’s visibility. Park in well-lit areas near people or with an on-duty parking lot or garage attendant.
Lock your doors and set the alarm (Basic, but a lot of people don’t bother.)
