WHN TIP — Register Your Investment: Bikes are stolen every day. Protect your investment with these bike registration tips!
- Choose a bike that fits the rider and the type of surface it’s going to be used on (off-road or pavement).
 - Add safety-oriented accessories like headlights or reflectors that can add an extra margin of security.
 - Wear appropriate headgear and clothing; safety, not style, should be the criterion for bike riding.
 - Know the “Rules of the Road.” Read through the Bicycle Traffic Laws Guide.
 - Teach your children the safety rules – Check out our article on 4 Steps to Teaching Children How to Ride a Bike.
 - Take photographs of your bike and date the photo.
- This establishes the current condition of the bike and will be evidence in case of an accident or theft.
 - Make sure you keep these copies in a safe location where you will be able to find them should an accident or theft occur.

 - Read and understand your insurance policy.
- Ask your agent if your bicycle is covered by your homeowner’s or renter’s property.
 - Keep in mind that your deductible may exceed the cost of the bicycle.

 - Keep at least two sets of photocopies of all your bike’s papers, with one set on the bike. Also, keep a pen and small notebook on your bike, just in case.
- After an accident or theft, give a copy of these papers to the police to help with the information on the police report.

WHN TIP – What to Keep With Your Bike: Keep a pen, notebook and papers in a zippered plastic bag inside your bike pouch or slipped inside a plastic water bottle on your bike. Remember to put a photo ID inside before you ride. Why? This way you’ll have all the info on hand and protected, in case you have an accident.
