Get Prepared

While you can’t completely prevent someone from stealing your car, there are steps you can take to help keep that from happening.

Here are the top three tips from experts to help prevent your favorite four-wheels from taking off.

Choose wisely.

Some cars are just more attractive to thieves. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the Honda Accord topped the list of the most stolen cars in 2015.

Make a record.

Write down your license plate number, the VIN number (usually on the dashboard near the steering wheel and also on the engine), the year, make, model and color. Have any special accessories inside? List them as well.

Secure the vehicle.

  • Never leave it unlocked.
  • Never park it and leave the top and/or windows down.
  • Never leave valuables in plain sight.

And don’t store a spare key in the vehicle.
